Heatpocalypse NYC 2010 by basalt Heatpocalypse NYC 2010 by basalt
Those of you who've ever had the privilege to use a cintiq for any length of time can attest to the fact that it is not only super awesome and convenient, but also seems to generate heat equivalent to that of a thousand burning suns right underneath your drawing arm. This by no means hinders the awesomeness of the cintiq, it just makes working from home in 100-degree weather super great.

I sacrificed some of the levels of pressure sensitivity that would come with a cintique but a Lenovo X201 doesn't have this problem... and its half the price. its really good for working away from the office.

Hah! Funny you should mention that, I purchased a Lenovo tablet PC about a year after I made this comic! SO good!! And actually, the cintiq I'm using is a DTU710 which has the same 512 lvls of sensitivity as the Lenovo. Now I get the best of both worlds :D

that sounds about right, the DTU710 is difficult to find unlike the Lenovo x201, the screens are pretty much the same other than the cintiq having a larger surface area but the advantage of the x201's portability outweighs that factor. you should take a look at Lenovo's newer models of the X201, they look promising.

How bad is the learning curve on one of those?

It took me about a week working with a cintiq to really get the hang of it. Admittedly I wasn't crazy about it the first time I sat down with one, but as I continued to work with it it really grew on me. Until by the end of the week I was in loooove. I highly recommend it if you've got the means, it's become an invaluable tool in my arsenal!

Hmm thanks so I'm guessing you had a graphics tablet prior which made the change easier?

Also, love your gallery. :D

I did! I worked with an intuos tablet for years before trying the cintiq, I'm sure it helped but I don't imagine it's a requirement.
And thank you! :D
